    MT940 fieldSpreadsheet use
:20:, :25:, :28C:Statement reference, account and statement number
:60F: / :60M:Opening balance, date and currency on Excel Statements sheet
:61:Booking/value date, debit/credit sign, amount and transaction references

MT940 to CSV vs MT940 to Excel

CSV gives you a flat table of transaction rows. Excel includes the same transaction table plus a Statements worksheet with balance information for each account statement. For bank-specific structured field :86: conventions, the narrative is preserved as text; proprietary subfields are not normalized into accounting-system-specific columns.

Review statement totals. FinMessage extracts the supplied fields; it does not certify your bank's MT940 variant or promise direct import into every accounting platform.
